HMI stands for “human-machine interaction”. Examples of HMIs are found in the interactive aspects of computer operating systems, heavy machinery operator controls and process controls. In most cases, the goal of HMI engineering is to produce a user interface which makes it safe, easy and efficient to operate a machine in the way which produces the desired result.
Various types of displays – including touch screens and hand-held panels – are used to provide feedback from HMIs. These displays help the operator assess the machine’s ongoing operations, allowing him/her to make any necessary changes along the way.
