Vickers-Warnick welcomed over 150 individuals to two days of complimentary Machine Guarding Seminars and Trade Shows held in Woodbridge on June 1st, 2004 and Guelph on June 3rd, 2004.

Attendees representing a wide variety of Ontario Manufacturing companies had the opportunity to listen to two key note speakers, John Murphy of Vickers Warnick and Frank Tomei of the IAPA, as well as take an opportunity to browse tabletop displays featuring the latest in Machine Guarding Solutions. The presenters and other Machine Guarding Experts were on hand to discuss individual application-related issues.

The first speaker, John Murphy summarized current legislation and standards in Ontario relating to Machine Guarding, including the newly released CSA standard - Z432-04 Safeguarding of Machinery as well as CSA Z142 Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Guarding Requirements.

Frank Tomei a well known Machine Guarding Specialist employed by the IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) delivered an excellent presentation outlining the responsibilities and requirements of employers as stated in Section 7 of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. (Pre start Health and Safety Reviews).

The Tabletop displays featured solutions for applications as simple as zone guarding to the complex requirements of pinch point protection. Representatives from the following Manufacturers of Machine Guarding products were on hand to answer questions.

Attendees left the seminars well advised on the ever changing issues related to Machine Guarding legislation in Ontario and more importantly much practical advice to ensure that they are meeting the requirements in their own workplaces.
